In 2015 Sheri Carter was the first African American woman to be elected to the Common Council in 125 years. Then in 2019 Sheri made history to become the first African American woman to be elected as the President of the Common Council.

In 2022 Sheri's neighborhood was redistricted to District 10. Arbor Hills joins, Orchard Ridge, Meadowood, Allied Dunn Marsh, Dunn Marsh, and Nakoma neighborhoods on the southwest side of Madison.

Sheri's community engagement includes Board President of Porchlight, Inc., NAACP of Dane County member, Destination Madison. In addition, Sheri is a strong supporter of Operation Fresh Start, Center of Black Excellence, Urban League Black Business Hub, Centro Hispano, UW Campus Partnership, Building Trades, and Focus Interruption Coalition.

As a lifelong advocate of human empowerment and paying it forward. Sheri will continue working with you to make our city a place that empowers each and every person who calls Madison home.
